Common Questions
Electrical Installation Singapore FAQs
Do I need a licensed electrician for electrical installation in Singapore?
Yes — Electrical Installation Singapore rules require this. Under EMA regulations, electrical installation work must be carried out by or under the supervision of a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW). DIY electrical installation is both unsafe and non-compliant. MM Engineering Works is an EMA-licensed electrical contractor and all installations are tested to SS 638.
How much does electrical installation cost in Singapore?
Small installations start from around S$25–S$80 per point (downlights, power sockets), dedicated circuits like aircon or water heater points from S$150–S$180, and larger works like DB box upgrades from S$600. Every job is quoted upfront with itemised pricing before work begins.
Can you install additional power points in an HDB flat?
Yes. We install additional 13A and 15A power points in HDB flats using surface trunking or concealed wiring, always on appropriately protected circuits. If your DB box has no spare ways, we'll advise on an upgrade rather than overloading existing circuits.
How fast can you schedule an installation?
Most single-item installations — a power point, light, ceiling fan or water heater circuit — can be scheduled same-day or next-day. Larger works like DB upgrades or renovation wiring are scheduled after a site assessment and written quote.
Do you work with interior designers and renovation contractors?
Yes. We regularly handle the electrical installation scope for ID firms and renovation contractors — wiring, points, lighting circuits and DB works — coordinated to your renovation timeline with LEW endorsement on completion.
What's the difference between electrical installation and electrical repair?
Electrical installation adds new wiring, points or equipment to a property, while electrical repair fixes existing faults such as trips, sparking outlets or faulty switches. Both must be carried out by a Licensed Electrical Worker, and installation work often also needs updated documentation for SS 638 compliance.
How long does a full home rewiring take?
A typical HDB flat rewiring takes about 3 to 5 working days, while larger condo or landed properties can take 1 to 2 weeks depending on scope and concealment work. We confirm an exact timeline after a site assessment.
Is electrical installation work covered by warranty?
Yes. All installation work carried out by MM Engineering Works is covered by a workmanship warranty, with testing and endorsement documentation provided so the installation is recognised for insurance and resale purposes.
